Interactive Breast Cancer Multimedia Decision Aids for the Internet

Dr. Yuri Quintana (University of Western Ontario)

Abstract

This presentation will describe the design issues for interactive multimedia consumer decision aids for the Internet. An evidence-based interactive breast cancer surgery decision aid will be presented that allows patients to view graphics, text, audio and interactive tools to help them decide on an appropriate breast cancer surgery plan. The current electronic decision aid has been designed to be delivered in CD-ROM and web site format and incorporates a rule-based system to allow customized patient feedback based on user inputs. The design of the system's streaming audio and video will be discussed and how it can be intergrated into interactive television.
